New home

As I am no longer at University of Nottingham it seems prudent to find an alternate place to host my web page. This page is therefore now being mirrored at www.bathterror.free-online.co.uk.

The new home has some advantages over the university hosting — statistics, php, cgi (and shell access to the cgi servers). Main downside is that I can't rsync the pages or ssh to the actual web server. I'm tempted to host the entire site on the cgi servers, but that would seem to be taking liberties.

The existing site will remain active for some time I guess.

UPDATE:

lftp seems to be able to fit the "rsync over ftp" gap. Obviously not as efficient, but does good enough for my needs. Also I'm interested in ideas for a better name/url for my site. Needs to be a bit more professional than "bath terror" or "brother rat"...

New Camera Nikon P1

I got a new digital camera from my parents for my birthday. It's a Nikon Coolpix P1, and has the following features:
  • 8.0 Megapixel
  • 3.5x optical zoom
  • 2.5" view finder
  • 1 Gb SD card (purchased seperately)
I've been very impressed with it so far. The camera is very pleasant to use, and the quality of the photos is good (although I've not had much oppurtunity to use it yet).

I've been experimenting with the included Panorama Maker 3 software, both with and without the camera's "Panorama Assist" mode. The results are pretty good, for a quick attempt. I'm sure with a tripod or a steadier hand, and maybe a brighter day the results could be very professional looking.
